Make your own Peas Paneer Curry

peas paneer curry

Peas Paneer Curry or Matar paneer as it’s called is a popular Northern Indian Curry dish made with green peas and Paneer (Indian cottage cheese) in a base of onions, tomatoes, spices and herbs. This deliciously mild dish pairs perfectly with steamed basmati rice or naan bread. You’ll love the sweetness of the peas paired with the savoury flavours of paneer.

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 large brown onion, chopped.
  • 400 gm can crushed tomatoes
  • 200 gm frozen peas
  • 200 gm coconut cream
  • 400 gm cottage cheese
  • Salt, black pepper and sweet paprika to taste
  • ½ tsp ground turmeric
  • Chopped coriander leaves to garnish

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over high heat. Add onion and saute for 5 minutes, then add tomatoes and cook until fragrant, around 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. Add coconut cream with all the spices and seasonings and cook for around 5 minutes.
  3. Add peas with 2 cups water and cook covered on medium heat for 10 minutes.
  4. Once the peas are cooked thoroughly, add cottage cheese and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it hot with plain rice/naan.
