How to make fun inside-out sushi

inside out sushi

Sushi can seem intimidating to make, but the truth is, it’s actually easier than you think! With this inside-out recipe, even young children can create delicious and fun rolls. Inside-out sushi is a popular style where the rice is on the outside and the filling is on the inside, making it easier to handle and eat. This recipe uses simple ingredients and child-friendly techniques, making it a great way to introduce children to Japanese cuisine.

By making sushi together, you can teach your children about different cultures, healthy eating habits, and the importance of trying new foods. Plus, it’s a fun and creative activity that can spark their imagination and develop their fine motor skills. So, gather your ingredients, roll up your sleeves, and get ready for a tasty lunch.

Inside-out Sushi – Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 4 Nori sheets
  • 1 cup of sushi rice (cooked)
  • Cucumber, cut into thin slices
  • Capsicum, cut into thin slices
  • Sesame seeds

Method

  • Visit our recipe on Beginner Sushi to learn how to prepare your rice.
  • Lay out a sheet of nori on the mat, shiny side down. Spread a fourth of the rice evenly across the nori sheet with your damp fingertips. Over the rice, equally distribute the sesame seeds, black. Put a big piece of plastic wrap over it.
  • Flip the rice and nori over carefully so that the nori is facing up. Underneath the plastic wrap, place the bamboo mat. Place a cucumber and capsicum on top of the nori.
  • Tightly roll the mat away from you, encasing the filling in rice. To finish the roll, gently press the roll and keep rolling forward. After gently shaping and sealing the roll with the mat, take it out of the plastic and mat.
  • Cut each roll into pieces using a sharp knife that has been cleaned with a moist towel. Transfer to a serving dish. Serve with soy sauce.

To make this recipe extra fun, you can get creative with your Inside-Out Sushi by turning it into a caterpillar or a flower. Your children are sure to come up with loads of fun ideas.
